Jahihi opens in South Sudan, its sixth East African market

Licensed by the Bank of South Sudan, Jahihi begins operations in Juba with savings and business accounts.

Juba, South Sudan — 15 February 2026

Jahihi has been granted a licence by the Bank of South Sudan to operate as a financial institution in the country, opening its first branch in Juba and beginning service to customers from today. The move marks the group's sixth East African market after Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania, Rwanda and Burundi.

The South Sudan entity will initially offer savings and business accounts, with personal lending, group savings and trade finance to follow once operational scale is established. All accounts are protected under the applicable Bank of South Sudan regulations, and the entity is subject to supervision by the Bank of South Sudan and to local data protection law.

The Juba branch employs 28 staff, the majority hired locally, and brings the group's headcount across the region to over 400.

“South Sudan is a natural extension of our East African footprint. Traders, cooperatives and small businesses in Juba have the same need for clear, fairly priced financial services as the customers we already serve across the region.”

Jane Nakato — Group Managing Director, Jahihi

“We are opening with a focused product set — savings and business accounts — so that the operation can be built carefully. Lending and trade finance will follow once the local team is fully in place.”

Grace Amollo — Group Head of Expansion, Jahihi
